Invisalign “Clear Aligner Technology”

What is Invisalign?

Instead of using brackets and wires to move teeth, Invisalign utilises clear BPA-free plastic trays, called aligners. These aligners are custom made to fit tightly over teeth, applying gentle pressure to move teeth into their new positions. Invisalign is extremely popular because the aligners are nearly invisible once in the mouth, so are ideal for adults and self-conscious older teens.

Who Can Have Invisalign Aligners?

Invisalign aligners can correct most common orthodontic problems that include bite issues, overcrowded or overlapping teeth, or closing or minimising spaces between teeth. Treatment is very predictable as it is planned using sophisticated software and uses the very latest orthodontic technologies. If you have complex orthodontic problems requiring correction, conventional braces may be preferable, providing a better treatment outcome. Our orthodontist Dr Johnathan Grove can determine your suitability during your initial consultation.

Planning Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign treatment is planned using scans and photos of your teeth. A special software program enables Dr Grove to determine precisely how each tooth will move during treatment. The program creates digital images showing your predicted smile after Invisalign treatment. The ability to see these images beforehand is extremely useful and allows you to become more involved with your treatment plan. Once you are happy with the predicted outcome, we can make your aligners.

What to Expect During Treatment?

We will show you how to insert and remove the aligners and how to care for them. All you need to do is wear them for at least twenty-two hours each day. Ideally you will only remove them for meals and when you wish to drink anything other than water or to clean your teeth. You can occasionally leave them out, but failing to wear the aligners as directed could negatively affect the outcome of treatment or delay completion.

No Need to Change your Diet or Oral Care Routine

You do not need to avoid any foods or use any special tools to clean your teeth. After two weeks, you discard your current set of aligners and begin to wear the next set in the series, following this simple routine until treatment is complete.
